What a fun day! Today we became tourists in Roswell, New Mexico. Of course a lot of Roswell is about UFO’s and Aliens. To be honest that is what we came for and being silly and juvenile had its charm. We will go into town at least a couple more times to complete our UFO study as well as do other wonderful things the area has to offer.
Whether or not you believe in Aliens and UfOs’ is not important as long as you can get into the spirit of the days. The place has actual historic and scientific relevance. My husband and I are believers. The galaxy seems too large for just us. I think it is a bit arrogant to believe we are the reason for it all. We also believe in many other things that may seem foolish and lack proof. I admit we are conspiracy buffs since so many of those theories have been proved. One of course that doesn’t seem foolish to us is our never ending faith but that is off topic.
We visited the International UFO Museum and Research Center. We were amazed by the collection it houses. I truly believe it could take you weeks to really read all the gathered material and study the photos.
The exhibits are numerous and especially the printed testimonies of sightings and letters of affirmation that the crash of July 1947 really happened here. There are many other proofs of these sightings and testimonies from around the world and at variety of times in history.
Exhibits contain replicas of aliens, the space craft materials and a collection of the usual art that is based on landings and abductions. “The truth is out there!” as the X-Files stated.
The best exhibit that draws you in is an alien landing crew and an animated space ship which appears to be getting ready to take off.
No Roswell trip would be complete without visiting the museum. It is cheap and you are even allowed to take pets in there.
Lunch was at the El Toro Bravo. I’m no expert but, food seemed authentic and was delicious. Inexpensive place to eat.
The next stop was the Alien Zone where they sell souvenirs of the UFO kind. The store had some very interesting and fun displays but, for us the best part of this place is the Area 51 section with lots of great displays and for just a couple dollars you can go in and take photos with real (well real looking, almost aliens.) These two old people giggled and spent way too much time indulging in this fantasy. We told ourselves it was for the blog and it is kinda. But if the word ‘silly’ has a place in your vocabulary, let yourself go.
There are several photos below. Enjoy! We are still laughing at ourselves. There will be many more added over time. Most photos are taken by my husband, Dan Wentzel. The few with him in it are taken by moi. You can tell the quality is much worse.
