Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. Since it is my birthday also it is extra special. I believe celebrating where you are visiting or vacationing should be part of all your holidays.
For decades in one way or another Dan and I gave out candy at Halloween. There have been haunted houses, trunk or treats and numerous parties. It would just seem wrong not to follow our traditional Halloween activity.
Since we are wintering here in New Mexico, we decided to find out if there was a place we could give candy out since we are in a state park camping. We were told about the citywide celebration and were allowed to participate. We were given a place in the middle of things to park the motorhome and pass out candy.
We no longer have our stash of stuff from which costumes are born since the motor home has no room for such things. Costumes were not complicated but we still had a great time.
I must commend this town on the great turnout (we actually ran out of candy and presumed we had plenty? But families from tiny babies, kids, teens, parents, grandparents and pets all come out for the grand event. It was so great to see working class dads join in and whole families do something together. We were super impressed with the people and the costumes. And all the ‘thank yous’ as well.
Dan captured some of the costumes. All pictures by Dan Wentzel unless he was in them.
